Privacy Policy

Sanjay Gangwar ("we", "us", "the developer") built Hotspot Station as a free Android application — a root-only launcher that turns a spare phone into a self-healing Wi-Fi hotspot appliance. This privacy policy explains how the app handles your data.

The short version: Hotspot Station collects nothing. It has no accounts, no servers, no ads, and no analytics. Everything happens on your device.

Data Collection by the App

The app does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. Specifically:

  • No user accounts or registration.
  • No servers — the app makes no network calls of its own.
  • No advertising SDKs.
  • No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
  • No tracking identifiers.

Data Stored on Your Device

  • Hotspot settings — your chosen network name (SSID), password, band, auto-start, reset interval, data cap, and kiosk PIN.
  • Operational status — connected-client counts, signal, data usage and uptime, shown live on the dashboard and not stored off-device.

All of this stays in the app's private storage and is deleted when you uninstall the app. Your hotspot password and kiosk PIN never leave the device.

Root Access

Hotspot Station requires root (superuser) access to control the device hotspot and cellular radio. Root is granted by your root manager (e.g. Magisk or KernelSU) and is used solely to start/stop the hotspot, read connected clients, refresh the connection, and set the preferred network mode. The app does not use root to access other apps' data.

Permissions

  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE — keep the hotspot alive and self-healing while running.
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — auto-start the hotspot after a reboot (if enabled).
  • READ_PHONE_STATE — read the current cellular network type (5G/LTE) and signal for the dashboard.
  • PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS — read cellular data usage for the dashboard and optional cap.
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS — show the ongoing foreground-service notification.

None of this information is transmitted anywhere; it is used only on-device for the dashboard.

Distribution

Hotspot Station is distributed only as a direct APK download from trei.dev. It is not published on the Google Play Store.

Children's Privacy

Hotspot Station is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone — including children.

Data Security

Local data is protected by Android's app sandboxing. Because no personal data ever leaves the device, there is no server-side data to secure.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when new features are added. Any changes will be posted here with an updated "Last Updated" date.
