Privacy Policy
Sanjay Gangwar ("we", "us", "the developer") built Minimal Launcher as a free Android application. This privacy policy explains how the app handles your data.
The short version: Minimal Launcher stores your launcher content locally on your device, but the current app version also uses ads, attribution, crash reporting, purchase handling, and basic usage analytics. These services may collect app activity, diagnostics, purchase history, approximate location inferred from network data, and device or advertising identifiers.
Data Collection
Minimal Launcher does not require an account. Notes, checklists, hidden-app choices, pinned apps, dock configuration, calendar events, and launcher preferences stay on your device unless Android backup or another device-level feature you control copies them.
The app and its SDKs may collect or transmit the following data:
- App activity and interactions — app launches, screen views, feature usage, ad interactions, and install attribution events, used for analytics, advertising measurement, and product improvement.
- Device or other identifiers — Android Advertising ID, Firebase app instance / installation identifiers, Android ID for daily active-user counting, and related SDK identifiers, used for ads, attribution, analytics, fraud prevention, and app functionality.
- Diagnostics and crash data — crash logs, stack traces, app state, device metadata, and SDK performance diagnostics, used to find and fix crashes and reliability issues.
- Approximate location — approximate location may be inferred by advertising SDKs from IP address for ads, analytics, and fraud prevention.
- Purchase history — purchase and entitlement information for the Remove Ads purchase, used to provide and restore premium status.
- Install referrer / campaign data — Google Play install referrer and UTM campaign parameters, used to measure whether ads and store links are working.
Data Stored on Your Device
The app stores the following data locally on your device only. This data never leaves your device.
- Pinned apps and dock configuration — your home screen layout preferences.
- Hidden apps list — apps you choose to hide behind biometric authentication.
- Notes and checklists — any text you enter in the notes or checklist features.
- App settings — theme, haptic feedback, e-ink mode, and other preferences.
All local data is stored in Android's standard app storage and is automatically deleted if you uninstall the app.
Permissions and Why We Need Them
- Launcher (HOME / DEFAULT) — Required to function as your default home screen launcher.
- Query All Packages — Required to display installed apps in the app drawer. The app list is processed locally and never transmitted.
- Biometric (USE_BIOMETRIC) — Used to authenticate access to hidden apps. Biometric data (fingerprint, face) is handled entirely by Android's BiometricPrompt API. The app never accesses, stores, or processes your biometric data directly.
- Device Admin — Optional. If enabled by the user, prevents accidental uninstallation of the launcher. Can be disabled at any time from Settings > Security > Device Admin.
- Calendar (READ_CALENDAR) — Used to display upcoming calendar events on the home screen. Calendar data is read locally and never transmitted.
- Accessibility Service — Used only for screen lock functionality. See the disclosure box above.
Third-Party Services
Minimal Launcher uses third-party services for app functionality, ads, attribution, purchases, analytics, and stability:
- Google Firebase Analytics — app usage analytics and install attribution.
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash reporting and diagnostics.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — notification delivery support.
- Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads — ad display, ad measurement, analytics, and fraud prevention.
- Meta / Facebook SDK and Meta Audience Network — app install attribution, app events, and ads.
- RevenueCat and Google Play Billing — purchase validation, entitlement management, and restoring ad-free access.
- Trei / HotApp API — daily active-user counting using the app name and Android ID.
These providers process data under their own privacy terms. Some advertising and attribution providers may use data to measure ads, prevent fraud, and improve or personalize advertising, depending on user settings and applicable law.
Children's Privacy
Minimal Launcher is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app or related services, contact us and we will take appropriate action.
Data Security
Local data is protected by Android's app sandboxing. Hidden apps are additionally protected behind biometric authentication via Android's BiometricPrompt API, which uses hardware-backed security. Data transmitted to backend services or third-party SDK providers is sent over encrypted connections such as HTTPS/TLS where supported by those providers.
Data Deletion
You can delete local launcher data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling Minimal Launcher. For data handled by third-party services or our backend systems, contact us at contact@trei.dev and include "Minimal data deletion request" in the subject.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when new features are added (such as advertising or subscription services). Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
