Dekhbhal

Maa-Papa ka phone, aasaan aur surakshit. A senior citizen phone for your parents, set up from yours.

Dekhbhal turns the ordinary Android phone your parent already owns into a simple phone with big buttons: photo tiles for the people they call, full-screen medicine reminders, a big red Help button and a shield against unknown callers. You add the contacts, the apps and the medicines from your own phone, from anywhere. No new handset, no monthly plan, and no tracking.

Dekhbhal is in open testing on Google Play in India. Install it on your parent’s phone and on your own.

What your parent sees

  • A home screen with the time, the date and nothing else to get lost in.
  • Big photo tiles for the people they call. One tap dials, through the phone’s own dialer, so the call screen, the keypad, WhatsApp and SMS all work exactly as before.
  • A full-screen medicine reminder at the right time, with the tablet’s name, and one big button: दवाई ले ली.
  • A big red Help button. Five seconds to change their mind, then it tells the family and calls the first person on the list.
  • Calls from unknown numbers silenced or stopped, so a scammer never gets through.
  • Hindi by default, in large Devanagari type, with English a tap away. Nothing to swipe, no gestures to learn.

What you do from your own phone

  • Add their contacts, with photos, and choose the order.
  • Choose which apps appear on their home screen.
  • Set their medicines: name, dose note, times of day, which days.
  • Choose how hard the call shield works, and add the numbers that must always ring — their doctor, the chemist.
  • See one card per parent: connected or not, battery, today’s medicines taken or missed, how many unknown calls were stopped, and the last Help alert.
  • Changes you save reach their phone within a minute. If their phone is off, the change waits, and your screen says so.

Is Dekhbhal safe? What it will never do

People ask this before they install anything on a parent’s phone, so it is written plainly.

  • Dekhbhal is not a tracker. You are changing our app’s settings on your parent’s phone — nothing else. You cannot see who they called, what they wrote, which apps they opened, or where they are.
  • Your parent agrees first, on their own screen. The whole list of what is shared: Help presses, whether a medicine was taken, battery, and the daily count of blocked unknown calls. Nothing else is shared at all.
  • They can see it and stop it. Their phone shows a notification saying so the entire time it is running, and they can stop sharing themselves, whenever they want.
  • Location is sent once, on Help only, and only if your parent allowed it. There is no background location and no history.
  • Contacts are never uploaded. The phone’s own contacts are read on the phone, to decide which calls may ring.
  • No ads, no paywall, no nag screens. Dekhbhal is free while we build it with the families using it.

Good to know

  • Android only, on Google Play in India, currently in open testing. There is no iPhone version.
  • It is an app, not a handset — it runs on the ordinary Android phone your parent already has.
  • The home screen, the medicine alarms and the call shield run on the phone itself and keep working with no network.
  • Made in India, for Indian families.

Common questions

Is Dekhbhal safe? Can I see what my parent does on their phone?

Dekhbhal is safe to install, and no, you cannot. Dekhbhal is not a tracker. You are changing our app’s settings on your parent’s phone and nothing else. You cannot see who they called, what they wrote, which apps they opened, or where they are. Your parent agrees on their own screen to the only things that are shared: Help presses, whether a medicine was taken, battery level, and the daily count of blocked unknown calls. Their phone shows a notification the whole time it is running, and they can stop sharing themselves at any moment.

Do I need to buy a new phone for my parents?

No. Dekhbhal is an app, not a handset. Install it once on the ordinary Android phone your parent already uses and it becomes their home screen. There is no new hardware and no monthly plan.

How do the medicine reminders work?

You set each medicine from your own phone: name, dose note, times of day and which days. At the right time your parent’s phone shows a full-screen reminder with the medicine name and one large button to confirm. If they miss it, it reminds them again after ten minutes, and you see on your card whether today’s medicines were taken or missed.

What happens when my parent presses the Help button?

There are five seconds to change their mind. After that Dekhbhal alerts the family and calls the first person on the list. Location is sent once, at that moment, and only if your parent allowed it. There is no background location and no history.

Does it stop scam and spam calls?

Dekhbhal silences or stops calls from numbers that are not in the phone’s contacts, and you choose how strict that is and which numbers must always ring, such as their doctor or the chemist. The contacts are read on the phone itself to decide this and are never uploaded. You see only a daily count of how many unknown calls were stopped, never who called.

Is Dekhbhal free?

Yes. No ads, no paywall and no nag screens. Dekhbhal is free while we build it with the families using it.

Which languages does it speak?

Hindi by default, in large Devanagari type, with English a tap away. Both the parent’s screen and the family member’s screen are available in both languages.

Does it work without internet?

The home screen, the medicine alarms and the call shield all run on the phone itself, so they keep working with no network. A change you save from your phone waits until their phone is online, and your screen tells you it is waiting.

How do I get Dekhbhal?

Dekhbhal is in open testing on Google Play in India. Join the open test from this page, install it on your parent’s phone and on your own, and choose the role on each. Questions or trouble: trei.dev/feedback.
